I am a practicing Obstetrician and Gynecologist, providing care for women in all stages of life. Approximately half of my practice consists of pregnancy-related care, including routine prenatal care, high risk obstetrics, and delivering babies at all hours of the day. The other half consists of gynecologic care, which ranges from routine annual check-ups to contraception and menopause. I perform many surgeries, including laparoscopies and hysterectomies.

We spent 2 weeks in cuba with my wife and took the sun a lot. She was 8 weeks pregnant. She took a sun burn but took folic acid and wear sun screen. Her belly was sometimes very hot. We are worried now for brain development for the baby. Thanks

While hot tubs are not advised during pregnancy, radiant heat from the sun is not likely to be damaging to the fetus.

Hello. I am 20 weeks pregnant and had my mid pregnancy scanning recently. I was told that everything was fine except that the heart ct ratio is 0.53 - the normal should be 0.50. I was asked to come back after 2wks for monitoring. Should i worry?

You should discuss this with your physician.

At 20 weeks, I was diagnosed with a hematoma by the placenta, low amniotic fluid, a SUA, & potential placental insufficiency. Baby measured in the 11%. By 27 weeks, he is 9%, good cord flow, and stable. What does this mean and what should I expect

This forum is designed to ask questions about the experience of being a practicing obgyn. If you have personal medical concerns, you should contact your physician.

My wife walks at least 6 miles/day and since we are trying to have a baby,i am worried that this could by anyway hurt the baby if she gets pregnant until we actually find out...

As long as she is hydrating well and is conditioned to work out at this intensity, exercise should not interfere with a healthy pregnancy.

I had this ovulation cramps going on for about two days now. And its very unusual to my body. It happened because i was active in sex. The cramps are giving me a hard time. If i tell my mom about this will she know im active to sex now? I hope not.

You should speak to your physician about this. Sex can trigger mild cramps, but if they are severe or persisting, then you should discuss this with your doctor.

I went to a gynecologist and he wrote: external genitala multipara, although I have given birt to just 1 child. What medical signs on my external genital made him think that I had more than 1 child?

Asked by Ann about 10 years ago

I can only infer that he actually meant to say "parous" rather than multipara. There is no reliable visible external cue to determine whether a woman has had more than one baby, although there may be subjective signs that a woman has delivered at least one baby vaginally.
